My name is Sofia, and I have been practicing yoga for over 20 years. I am honoured to have the opportunity to share with you the deep connections I have developed with yoga, and the peace and inspiration that I continue to receive from my yoga practice.

I have recently received my certification as a yoga teacher through Yoga Therapy Toronto. My teachers studied in India under TK Desikachar, son of SRI T. Krishnamacharya, known to be one of the main teachers of classical yoga in modern times. They continued to return yearly to India for 20 years to continue their yoga studies. They taught that the essence of Krishnamacharya's teachings is to adapt the various tools of yoga to each individual. The yoga practice must be tailored to fit each person and their uniqueness. It is this philosophy that drew me to study at Yoga Therapy Toronto. I now carry that philosophy into my teaching. During yoga practiice, using various yoga tools, my studens are invited to notice what is happening in their body, mind and spirit. It is a process of inviting transformation rather than giving information.

Gentle yoga classes tailored to you

Our natural state of being is peaceful and happy, but through life experiences and conditioning, our natural state is not always available to us if we feel tense and restricted. The practice of yoga is meant to transform this "suffering" so that we can once again feel peace and comfort.

The uniqueness of each student will be honoured. Practice will be tailored to each student's level and capabilities.

You will be encouraged to be at ease and not to tense your body during performing yoga poses. There is no pushing, pain or holding your breath during my classes. Rather we will move slowly through each pose, and you will be encouraged to notice what is happening in your body, in your mind and to your breath.

Each class will have a specific focus or purpose, and will include a series of poses, breath work, meditation and final rest period.

I invite you to join me!
